Frequently Asked Questions about Notify CD Player (Last updated 1998-03-11)

I can't connect to the remote server using HTTP!
All servers doesn't support the HTTP protocol. Try another or check http://www.cddb.com/sites.html for a list of servers that do support the HTTP protocol.

Why has Notify grown so big (about 120K download and about 240K unpacked)?
Well, more features... And the fact that I now staticly link the RTL has something to do with it. No more MSVCRT*.DLL confusions...

Do I need the CDDB plug-in?
No. The support for CDDB is built in as of version 1.50!

What happened to the ODBC plug-in?
Plug-in's are not supported as of version 1.50. Version 1.50 has built in support for the CDDB database that can handle databases over 64K. The 64K limit of INI files in Windows 95 was the reason I wrote the ODBC plug-in in the first place.

Can I convert my existing CDPLAYER.INI or ODBC database to a CDDB database?
Unfortunately not. They use two totally different algorithms for the ID (I didn't invent any of them) and the information needed to create any of them isn't available in the other. To create a CDDB ID I need to have track offsets which cannot be found in the MCI ID. The MCI ID is actually created by the MCI API and I don't even know the algorithm, which makes it even harder...

Notify doesn't find my old entries in CDPLAYER.INI. What's the problem?
Make sure you have enabled automatic query of local database on the Database tab in the Options dialog.
